Castle Howard

The imposing bullding that featured in 'Brideshead Revisited' is only a matter of minutes away by car. The house itself has much to see and the grounds are spacious. There is an excellent children's adventure playground.

The National Trust

There are several National Trust properties in the area including The Treasurer's House in York, Benningborough Hall, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Terraces, Mount Grace Priory, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Brimham Rocks, Roseberry Topping and others.

English Heritage

Amongst the properties in the area are Mount Grace Priory and Byland Abbey, Clifford's Tower, Helmsley Castle, Kirkham Priory, Fountains Abbey, Riveaux Abbey, Whitby Abbey, York Cold War Bunker and Pickering Castle.

Historic Houses Association

Within easy reach are Newby Hall, Castle Howard, Ripley Castle, Bolton Castle, Burton Agnes Hall, Burton Constable Hall and Constable Burton Hall, Bramham Park, Hovingham Hall, Duncombe Park, Fairfax House and others.

National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum is based in York.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Steam railway with 18 miles of track running from Pickering to Grosmont through the North York Moors with connections to Whitby.

York Minster

One of the greatest architectural masterpieces of medieval craftmanship, the cathedral offers wonderful opportunities to worship or just to visit as a tourist.
